Project Hours
Completing a Senior Project requires the student to put in a minimum of 20+ project hours under the guidance and supervision of a Project Advisor. The Project Advisor is a content expert who agrees to work with the student as he/she gains experience in the field and works to develop his/her culminating activity (e.g., Service Learning Project, Personal Interest Project, or Career Interest Project).
Because the Senior Project is a mostly independent study program, Senior Project students are expected to find their own Senior Project Advisors. Finding a Project Advisor can be a daunting task for some students, but it is a learning experience that requires students to develop skills that push them beyond their comfort levels and will surely benefit them in their future endeavors.
Project Advisors are limited to working with no more than three (3) students at a time. Therefore, students are urged to contact potential Project Advisors as soon as possible to avoid scrambling to securing an advisor later. Students can use the "Contacting Your Project Advisor" handout, in the "Resources" section at the bottom of the page, to help prepare for contacting a potential Project Advisor.
If a student is having difficulties finding a Project Advisor, he/she should talk to his/her On-Campus Mentor or Mr. Yoshizawa for suggestions as soon as possible.

Don't forget that Project Advisors are busy people who have their own jobs and family responsibilities too. If someone agrees to be your Project Advisor, please remember that he/she is doing so voluntarily. In return, it is important for you to be courteous, patient, appreciative, and responsible when working with them to complete your 20+ project hours. Don't make them regret their decision to help you with your Senior Project.
